SoJo Glow 10K
Last night I ran my first night time race. It was a 10K that started at 11:00pm! I must admit while I was getting ready to run at a time when I am usually tucked into bed watching The Americans, I was questioning my sanity. Because we couldn't leave the kids alone that late at night, Erik couldn't come out to support which was a bummer.
My snap chat when I arrived at the race. I was so nervous (I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this because I am ALWAYS nervous before a race!).
The atmosphere at this race was so fun! Everyone was in neon colors and they passed out glow necklaces and bracelets which honestly helped us see all of the other runners out on course. There were several big multi generational family groups that were fun to watch. I also noticed a few matching older couples that were walking the 5K which was so adorable. And lots of runners in their teens and twenties as they are the ones most likely function well at midnight haha
I was a a little nervous because a day before the race, I received an email saying if we had head lamps we should bring them. Well, I discovered that my dear 7 year old son broke our head lamp when I went to get it. I was hoping that the trail would be lit enough without one!
Luckily, the path was completely paved. It was a great path that I know I will go back and run on, because it was the flattest course I have ever run since moving to Utah haha! There were times when it was pretty dark when there weren't runners immediately by me, but it wasn't too bad at all. It was such a treat to run in somewhat cool temperatures since the sun was down (and Utah has like 0% humidity, so if the sun is down then the temps are too!).
One thing I was disappointed in was the course was not quite a 10K! When I went to get my medal, I noticed that my watch said I had only run 5.9 miles! I told myself not get hung up on it though, because I wasn't using this race for POT-- just a race for myself and I was pleased with my pace so overall I was happy with it!
I stupidly stayed for all of the raffle drawings, thinking this would be my race to actually win something . . . but alas, no prize for me! I am ever the optimist as proved by my nightly entering of Disney World sweepstakes though. One of these days I will actually win something haha
Shirt, medal, and swag bag contents. The shirt is a unisex so its a bit big, but I like it!
I definitely think I would do this race again, though I would have to make sure I don't have anything going on the next day. I didn't fall asleep last night 3ish and had to wake up at 7:30 for the puppy, so I have been really useless today! Luckily, I was able to take a nap this afternoon though! I could see myself enjoying this race with the kids once they are older!
