Big Cottonwood Canyon Half Marathon September 2015

Last Friday it was packet pick up day!  They had a fun backdrop to take pictures in front.

These great ladies are why I signed up for this race to being with!  It's been fun running with them.

And then sure enough, dark and early, it was time to run my race!  I got picked up at 4:15am (ouch!).  We drove over to where the buses would drive us up the canyon and then wrapped in our mylar blankets and throw away sweats we waited for the race to begin!

It was a super weird beginning.  There was no one on a bullhorn or no starting sound.  All of a sudden we realized that people way ahead had started running and the race was underway haha

It was a beautiful course.  This is from the website, "Runners are set to experience an elevation drop of more than 3,000 feet as they descend through Big Cottonwood Canyon on their way from the mountains into the city ."

Finished! Since it was so downhill, I had no trouble cardio-wise .  It was fun to chat and laugh the whole race, but my legs were a different story!  My quads and knees ached quite a bit, but a few hours later, I was truly in trouble.  I have never, ever been so sore in my entire life!  It lasted about 4 days too!

I say this every race, but I really am so thankful for the family support I get.  Ever since I started doing these races when Wyatt was a baby, Erik has always supported and helped me figure out ways I can get my runs in.  Now, Jackson helps a lot by "watching the kids" while I do little runs in the morning which is nice.  It takes a village to get me out the door haha

Some group shots, and then pictures that are out of order from other people's phones or from the race pictures. I need to give a shout out to Revel for the free pictures they give out! It was awesome to download all of the professional pictures that were taken, and not pay the arm and a leg that most photo companies charge at races.

I was telling a story (that obviously required my hands in the air) and then after the marathon I realized I had black fuzzballs in my armpits from my throwaway sweatshirt I was wearing.  Luckily, I don't think it showed up in the picture haha

I do know this was right at the end of the race.  There was such a big group of us, I ended up running with different people at different times, depending on who needed to make a pit stop the same time, who needed a walk break, etc.  I don't know the total number of runners, but I did hear that there was a runner from each state in the country.  I imagine since its such a fast, downhill course and a Boston Marathon qualifier, many people come here for a fast time. My official end time 2:12 which was fine.  I'll take it!

Yay for running!!
