Rugged Maniac May 2012
Yesterday was my Rugged Maniac race. It was so much fun! We left about 9:00 am for our three hour drive (it was in Petersburg, south of Richmond).
In line to register. Wahoo!
The race certainly had a party atmosphere. There were bounce houses for the kids, which they loved.
I've been catching glimpses of Anna and Wyatt playing together more and more- it's so cute!
So there were a few women from my ward that ran it. I loved our matching shirts :) (I look super awkward in this picture, because I thought someone was behind me, haha).

As we were waiting for the start time, Erik was being the good photographer and taking lots of candid pictures. He started to get a little snap-happy though, when he enlisted these fellow racers to join me in a picture.
There were lots of colorful racers there, but none were quite so naked as these two yuckos. Erik walked up to them and said, "Hey do you see that woman over there? She's my wife. Would you mind going over to her and putting your arms around her for a picture?" Really Erik?! Really?!?
And we're off! So the race is only a 5K, a distance that is pretty comfortable for me. However, there were many more obstacle than I thought there would be, about 15. They ranged from really high walls we had to climb over, barbed wire we had to crawl under (in mud), tunnels we needed to crawl through, mud pools we had to wade through, fire we had to jump over, and just about anything else you can imagine!
One of the last obstacles was a giant slide down to a muddy pit. By about 1/2 way through, I really just embraced the mud.
All done and soooooo dirty! As soon as I was done, I made a beeline to the hoses to rinse off. It would have been great to have an actual shower, but hosing off was as good as I was going to get until I got home.
Wyatt really loved his little rock he found. He just makes me smile so much.
Jackson really enjoyed watching everyone slide down. He really wanted to slide down himself, actually. Later I saw some parents sliding down with their kids, but I had already changed into clean clothes so he was out luck :(
I so appreciate Erik making this trip out, all for me. What a supportive man I married! :)
The group minus Leah and Elizabeth.
It really was more fun and more challenging than I was expecting. I definitely want to do it again next year, this time hopefully with Erik (yeah I know this is a pipe dream- he would not want to do this, but it's fun to dream, haha)
